SHRI N. BIREN SEEKS COOPERATION FROM SHRI CONRAD

Imphal, April 07, 2018 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh has urged the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri Conrad K. Sangma to look into the plights of the Manipuris residing in Meghalaya. Shri N. Biren also sought co-operation from his Meghalaya counterpart regarding development of Manipur Bhawan at Redlands, Laimukhra, Shillong.

The Chief Minister made the request during a meeting with Shri Conrad at Chief Minister’s Secretariat today.

Shri N. Biren said that there is a small Manipuri settlement at Bhologanj in East Khasi Hills. Though they have been residing there since the past many decades, they have not been getting benefits from the schemes of the Government. It is also reported that the Manipuris have not been issued Aadhar cards or AAY cards nor provided land records, he added.

Moreover, Shri N. Biren also sought cooperation from his Meghalaya counterpart in resolving land record issues pertaining to Manipur Bhawan at Laimukhra. The Chief Minister told Shri Conrad that Manipur Bhawan located at Redlands, Laimukhra has deep emotional and cultural linkages to the people of Manipur. The Government of Manipur has been actively considering development of the site in a befitting manner, he added. However, there has been a long pending issue regarding the land records of this estate, Shri Biren said while requesting Shri Conrad to direct the officials concerned to resolve the issue at the earliest.

The Chief Minister also handed over official letters regarding these matters to Shri Conrad during the meeting.
